Pawn Shops Versus Garage Sales

We often find our houses becoming cluttered with excess items. As years go by we come up with three main options. We can hoard, give away, or sell the excess items we no longer use. Hoarding and giving things away are fairly simple to do, so I want to show you some easy ways to sell your items. Today I wanted to focus on the pros and cons of Garage Sales versus Pawn Shops.

Garage Sales are one of the most common ways Americans sale of their old unused Items.

Here are some pros and cons to having a garage sale:

Garage Sale Pros and Cons:

Garage Sale Pros:

-You don’t need to leave the house
-Pick the price you want to sell your items for
-Setting the initial price for your items can help to give you leverage in the negotiation process when selling.

Having the ability to sell your items in the comfort of your own home is perfect for making a couple bucks on a Saturday morning. However, this is a double-edged sword, meaning yes you have the comfort of being home but you also have the risk of not selling everything. Often as the day goes on the seller becomes less driven to sell an item for a certain target price. Therefore, this can result in the seller giving away items for a price that is much cheaper than anticipated.

Garage Sale Cons:

-The risk of not selling anything or everything that day
-Staying home all day

Pawn Shops

Pawn Shops can be an easy way to make some quick bucks. When most people think of a pawn shop they think about Jewelry and Loans, but most pawn shops sell much more than just that. Next time you need to sell some miscellaneous items consider going to a pawn shop, they have a few pros to them as well.

Pawn Shop Pros:

-Sell your items on the spot
-Trade some of your unwanted items for more useful ones in the store

When it comes to selling, speed can be an important factor, how much longer do you really want to hold on to that old chest in the garage? Going to a pawn shop to sell can give you more time to your day as opposed to a garage sale. Having the ability to trade items is a hidden feature most pawnshops have that can be beneficial to both parties. On the other hand, there are some cons to a pawn shop.

Pawn Shop Cons:

-Your items may be sold for a cheaper price than you anticipated
-You need to physically go to your local pawn shop

I hope this article helped to give you some new perspectives when deciding to sell some of your unwanted items. What is your experience with pawn shops versus garage sales? Let us know in the comments!
